Morrie Hanging In There

Posted by Mike in Golf Tips For Beginners

Morrie had a tough week with a slight pull in his lower back. Wasn’t able to do much with the exercises, but did get out and play. He’s got a newfound range of motion, so it’s throwing off his timing with his mid to short irons, so even though he’s seeing a big increase in distance, he’s now mishitting them.

So with a continued effort with his training, and a few visits to the range with his irons, he’ll drop even more strokes, and he’s already down12-14 in ONLY 4 weeks.

Morrie’s problem with the short irons was mine as I got looser and more able to swing through. Speed. Once the easier rythym was drummed into my swing the irons went back on target but stayed much longer. Took a couple of months to regroove the distances.

I keep the stretching gear hook up in the (home) office - you can get a a lot done the computer boots up in the morning - and also use the 2 lb. wrist cuffs instead of the dumbells - you can wear them while doing normal office activities.

Have enjoyed and profitetd from many offerings over the years.

Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike
Interesting that I have the same issue currently with my irons. I can feel I am able to hit them longer with ease, I am not as accurate. Looks like I need to spent more time on the range to get the confidence going.

I also mentioned that I would play the local club champs. Well it has gone a lot better than I thought it would. At Stellenbosch the Championship Tees are making such a difference to the distance of the course that my biggest fear was not being able to reach all the par 4’s in 2. With the added distance I did not experience the fear at all!!.

To put the difference between the normal tees and championship tees in perspective the course rating goes up from a 70 to 73 although the actual par is 72!! I played of a 5 handicap and won the Nett for the A division by 6 strokes over 72 holes and came overall fifth in the Gross. The players that beat me on gross handicaps ranged from +1 to 1. I only finish 8 shots off second place over 72 holes !!

I have now completed my first month of non-stop execises (Ultimate Fittness Guide - Beginner Level) as per you book. This week I will start the Intermediate program.

The warm-up and additional execises must work as I have also tried them so far and the results are looking very good. I already moved my handicap down to a 4 and if all goes well it will again drop if I can play another round on 75 or less!

Thanks again
