Morrie Plays A Long Par 5

It’s a very windy day at Dove Valley Golf Club, and Morrie was stuck in traffic for an hour to get up here. Remember, it’s 6:30am when we shoot this, and Morrie is only doing our First Tee Warm Up, hitting a couple of balls, and then the camera turns on.

Watch as he hits a great drive, excellent second and third shot.

As always, I invite any and all comments below, so chime in

I look forward to this each week. Morrie is making some great progress and it’s fun to watch. I’ve incorperated some of the stretches and warm ups into my game and it really helps. The guys I play with tend to rush right out without warm up so I have to warm up on the 1st tee many times. It’s really great to see a program with a regular golfer. The pros are fun to watch but let’s face it most of us aren’t at that level. Something I’d like to see is course management and 100 yard and less. Morrie was doing great and had a chance to get up and down if not for the flubbed chip. It’s really a lot of fun to see how excited he gets. Keep it up Morrie you’re doing great!

This is so great. The two exercises that Mike has demonstrated are ones that I used last winter at the health club.

What is even greater, a chiropractor told me my back was so stiff I needed to get adjustments from him on a regular basis. After starting an exercise program at the health club my back is no longer stiff.

I am 71 yrs old and can still drive with the best of them.

Like Morrie I screw up but on more than one hole.

Keep the series going Mike.

These videos with Morrie give hope to a lot of us seniors. It shows us the value of keeping our bodies fit and the importance of warming up prior to actual play. I look forward to each new session with Morrie.

Gary, Not so much of the seniors, my mates and i haven’t quite started calling ourselves seniors yet. Morrie’s giving us all that little bit of hope, mate. I’ve had some shocking shots but i still love the game. I tell my mates, if it was easy …… EVERYONE would be out here . Happy golfing

Mike,

I truly enjoy watching the progress being made here. Your teaching technique lends itself to easy learning and it shows. I look forward to every Monday’’s lesson.

Keep em coming.

I always enjoy seeing Morrie and you on Monday. During the past few years, I have put a great emphasis on warming up my body. Friends sometimes go to the range and mindlessly hit balls balls for 15 minutes but I spend that time stretching and warming up the body. I almost always beat them handily. Great job by both of you. Now that Morrie is making contact he will have to spend almost 2/3 of his practise time on 100 yards and in. That is where all the scoring happens.

I look forward to seeing this it gives me a chance to see just what your doing with a average player and not a pro.
Your so good to be able to work with people I shows just how much of a people person you are.
I wish I lived out their so I could do this too,but being in Mi and Fla for the winter it makes it hard to work with someone.
Anyway thanks for all you do and keep the emails coming I enjoy them all.
When I go out to play one of the first things I do is I get by the bench and do push ups just to losen up my upper back and arms ,then I do some turns with the club.
I have to be carefull so I don’t pull my back ,you see I had a compression break in the L-4 L-5 PLUS i HAD POLIO when I was young so it makes it harder for me to do a lot of turning like most golfers.
But I try my best im a 14 handy cap.If I hit alot in a roll then I kind hardly move for a few days,Im so sore,no matter what.
I like the big ball that you use but if I try to sit on it annd do anything like that forget it just like situps no way.
Any ideas that would help but not to stressfull on the lower back and neck.??

Mike/Morrie

I just can’t believe the improvement in the quality of Morrie’s swing. He must have been doing more than exercises. Has he been taking lessons? But even if he has the improvement is outstanding in such a short period of time. The three swings on the par 5 were quite exceptional.

Best wishes

Hi Don,

I haven’t had one lesson since we started this program. I will take some lessons in the future. But, I’ll won’t give up these easy exercises ….. the more I do them the better I feel.

Hit long and like an arrow!
Morrie

Watching Morrie do all those swings which look so effortless, I really enjoy it very much. Those first 3 shots are excellent. What I like more in watching Morrie is his club selection, they’re just like mine that’s why I have fun watching those videos more than anything else. I’m particular also with all the exercises Mike teaches Morrie every session, they are great. Keep it up Morrie!!! Great job Mike!!!

 I’m so impressed by Morrie’s progress. I’ve incorporated the warm-ups and stretches and have improved my game too. We’re out here in Scottsdale until Dec 1 and will be back for Febr so I’ll continue to use Mike’s exercises and hopefully gain some distance on my drives.

I’m afraid that 20 yard shot Morrie had left after his third shot is one that I struggle with, too. It’s so hard to get feel for anything between about 20 yards and a full wedge swing.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Mike- I just ordered your ‘Strecthing Exercises CD’. Watching the “Sessions with Morrie” has really inspired me. I turned 60 this year and the days of hitting it long have been gone for many years now. I just try to work on ‘keeping it smooth and trying to get some consistency’ back in my once a week game.
I started doing the exercises I saw Morrie working on about 4 weeks ago and I’ve found myself occassionally reaching the par 5’s in 2 again. I haven’t done that in 15 years.
I’m looking forward to getting the CD and really concentrating on the exercises. Now, if I could just learn to putt.

Thanks,
Bill Ward

Hi Bill,

Thanks for ordering my stretching DVD  !

I’m confident if you use it consistently (ONLY 7 minutes a day, a couple days a week  ) you will be happy with your results.

I just wish I could get more golfers to realize it’s their BODY that’s keeping them from a better golf swing that’s loaded with power.

Talk soon,
Mike

Great series. I’m a young senior, 62, but have had a back issue for years. I have to go back to review the exercises but have enjoyed them as you introduced them. I play in Maine so I have a good four months to prepare for another season with great expectation. Keep up the good work Mike and I am looking forward to more with Morrie.

This stretching stuff really works. I got your ebook a couple of months ago and find it great.
Love the sessions with Morrie. Really great ball striking and follow through this week.
One thing I noticed is there is a lot of negative talk around the green and mixed signals. I know Morrie is under extra pressure with the camera etc. but you telling him to do differrent things just as he is about to hit is not helping him. Like ” you gotta hit it firm enough to get it through this short grass” and “it’s downhill but these aren’t real fast greens either”. This puts it into his mind not to leave it short and guess what ? he sure didn’t.
Also if Morrie keeps saying he always does dumb or stupid things during a round that what his self-image becomes. Talk about all the good shots you made and learn to forget about the not so perfect ones.
