Monday’s With Morrie - On The Range

I finally got to see Morrie’s golf swing. As I mention in the video, he has no problem hitting it straight, we just need to get him some more yards with every club, and after watching him hit some 7 irons and drivers, I’m confident we can get him there.

Morrie is also keeping a journal to not only hold himself accountable, but to really watch and learn his emotional connections to his game, fitness and overall health. This is something all of us should be doing consistently.

I invite you to insert your comments below, whether it be words of encouragement for Morrie, or questions you may have. I was pleased with the responses to the first video, but I’m hoping the word will spread and the following will grow. There are a lot of Morrie’s out there who need help, so hopefully we can accomplish that!

 Hi, I have been watching your vidoes for some time and exercising at the gym 3-4 days a week for 30 minutes for about 12 mths now. Recently I had a few shoulder and distance issues and seeing the exercises you have done with Morrie I belive they will help me. Great series, looking forward to the next installment. Morrie is now starting on his path. I had back surgery a number of years ago and started my own journey. I utilized Mike’s stretching DVD, as well as a local golf trainer and am now totaly in charge of my own golf destiny. It takes daily work and increased knowledge of your body but it makes a big difference. Keep it up Morrie. At age 58 and after spinal fusion, my handicap is 10 strokes better than when I was 30!
Go Morrie,
Dan

Stick with it Morrie, Mike will get you there.

I like the look of this shoulder exercise. I will be incorporating into my Ultimate Golf Fitness workouts. I am currently using the Intermediate program, is there a particular exercise there that this shoulder exercise should replace or would you see it as an addition?

Those two exercises for Morrie look great and the rationale for them makes a lot of sense.
I gotta think he’s going to really like what he sees next week.

Bob…that’s great news  If I can get golfers to realize that it’s their BODY that’s huge! Then just TAKE ACTION and you’ll see QUICK improvement.

Great stretching exercises. I play a 6 handicap but I can’t hit it long. I am 48 years old
and surely would like to play more competetive golf. I will surely try to do these exercises
and hope will improve my distance as I have a bad left shoulder.

Great exercise routine Mike. As an older golfer I try to stay loose by playing tennis 2-3 time a week. It really helps keep my shoulders and waist active.

I will add these exercises to my golf warm up.

Keep it up Morrie, you will be amazed how you can improve your golf. I bought Mike’s book & am c.6 weeks into it at the Beginner level & my ball striking is more crisp & am looking to drop my Handicap, instead of arresting my decline. Mike, enjoyed what you showed as it enables me to understand what these stretching exercises are for.

I am 58 and beside the same name (different spelling), I have some of the tightness that Morrie has. I have used similar exercises for the shoulders for some time now and it has helped tremendously. My average driveing distance is 275 and I currently play to a 5.3 USGA index. My hamstrings have always been very tight and any attempt to stretch has caused significant lower back pain in the following days. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Niiiice video! These two exercises will work for me too! I’m 49 yrs old, a 10 handicap, 94 mph driver swingspeed but only carry 220 yards and rolls 12 yards or so for a total of 232 yards. I’d like to carry at least 240-245 yards consistently. My shoulders are quite stiff and tight too.

Great start to what I know will be the most enjoyment you will have playing golf. Morrie, you keep doing the drills that Mike is giving you, and I promise, you will be playing the best golf of your life. Mike’s approach to teaching is so enjoyable to watch. He makes learning fun. And that is the key to playing this great game. I will continue to watch your progress thru the next coming weeks. Best of luck to you.

Hi all and thanks for the encouragement! I’m really excited about this series, because I’m having fun being the star!!! For real it’s starting to work.

Right after we shot the the first session Mike gave some simple stretches to do. Actually only 2 and one was seated and rotating my shoulders back and forth. The second was another seated core pull, both very simple.

Listen to this; played Saturday with my group and they were amazed at how much turn I was getting. I was hitting the ball 10-15 yards further than I ever have. It was very windy, drove the ball futher into the wind than I had with no wind. And, thats with 2 (two) stretches!!!

I did my band and weights yesterday and I’m pumped to get more rotation. I do my ham strings every day, what a difference that has made. The whole routine is about 8 minutes.

I’m only going to do what Mike tells me to do …… NO more and NO less.

More distance to grey power —- Morrie

Hello Mike
Well here is a shameless plug for you
Like you say every fault relates to something physical.
I have your stretching book.
I am 57 but have the flexiblilty of a 22 year old.
Where you had him use 5lb weights and he can only go partially to the top
I use 10 lb. weights and can go vertical all day long.
I can do a shoulder turn way past 90 degree…just like your teachings will do.
INSTEAD OF PEOPLE GOING TO A SWING COACH THEY SHOULD BUY YOUR BOOKS AND GET THEIR BODY IN SHAPE FIRST..AND IT DOES WORK…PEOPLE WILL BE SURPRISED.

Thank you very much for the kind words Don! It is greatly appreciated, as this is the toughest SELL I’ve ever had in my life to get golfers to WAKE UP and deal with the truth. A broken body will NEVER play better golf. All the lessons in the world won’t help if your body can’t do what your pro wants it to do. Take the easy way out and waste $400 on that next driver. It will get you 10 yards in the store, but you won’t find it on the course after you’ve bought it.

Oh well…enough of a rant for now

Thanks again!

Mike

I went and opened my big mouth at home, at the office, at the golf course and now EVERYBODY is expecting great things from me and my new LEAF I am turning over. OH, by the way Morrie the whole gang in Southwest Florida is pulling for you and ME…….

Well…….I did my excersises this morning. Took all of eight (8) minutes to complete them. I did do a few more of each. They are easy to do and take no time at all. I streach my ham strings two or three times a day and I do my seated streaches 3-4 times a day. I’m really having fun with this program, unlike gym training. I’m not sore or stiff, but feel good about mysealf ans my progress.

More power to grey power!

Mike,
You are doing an awesome job with showing the “older” golfing world with just a little stretching every day will lenghten a golf swing and add yards to every club in your bag. I have had your DVD’s for 3 years now and FINALLY began to push “play”. After only two weeks I already see a difference. And for this 51-year old to (sometimes) get it past my 30-something playing partners, it is very, very cool!

Great looking video! My flexibility looks a lot like Morrie. I have already begun stretching and hope it frees up the swing and restores some lost distance. I look foreward to following his progress.

Mike,

How did you choose Morrie? You’ve got a homerun with his personality plus someone that represents physically 80% of golfers. Do you feel that % is too high or too low? You’ve got someone that loves the game, really wants to improve, has very realistic goals and exercise is not in his vocabulary. It was interesting seeing the difference in Morrie between the interview and week 1 of the golf swing. In the interview he was comfortable, confident and his love of the game was most noticeable. When swinging he had a pretty good level of confidence. He’s played enough to know what he was going to show you…straight with not much distance. However, when he went through the testing and learning the 2 exercises he became more uncomfortable and apprehensive. It just goes to show how doing something new or different can be intimidating but I look forward to seeing Morrie’s excitement as he improves week to week. For the love of the game!
