Eat This Nutriton Bar If You Want To Play Great Golf

Posted by Mike in Nutrition

How many times have you been in a situation of having no food available? Especially on the golf course? I see this and hear this dilemma all the time. The worst thing you can do is skip a meal and starve yourself. Your body shuts down from a metabolic standpoint and your energy plummets.

If you read my ealier post on my personal protein shake, you’ll know by now I’m a big believer in natural foods (organic) that are high in the nutrients that are going to reward my body, not damage it. Today’s foods are contaminated with preservatives, pesticides and nutritional substitutes that are just not good for you. Just read the label on the back of any food, and if you can’t understand what the ingredient is, it’s probably not good for you!

Losing Weight Is Easy

I see golfers come to the course and play an entire round of golf without eating! If you want to lose weight, this is the worst thing you can do. Your body actually shuts down (burning fewer calories) and conserves fat! Picture the bear in hybernation. He knows he can’t be that active because of the weather so he conserves to get by.

To lose weight, you need to eat smart snacks and meals throughout the day to “feed the fire” and increase your metabolism into a high-burning, lean mean Ferrari. You’ll have more energy, burn more calories, and probably have more motivation to actually exercise to burn fat easily.

Eating The Right Nutrition Bar

I have gone through many nutrition bars in my time. Some haven’t been the best, and others have been more like I should have eaten all along. But I found one that is one of the healthiest bars you can eat, and it is my bar of choice from now on.

It’s called the Organic Food Bar!

Organic Nutrition Bar

Again…my favorite store being Wholefoods, this is where I found it. Or you can order it online at the link above! This bar is totally organic as the name states, and is extremely healthy for you. When you read the ingredients, you’ll be able to figure out every item that’s in it.

The only issue I had with it was it’s fat content, but realizing there are certain fats that are good for you, I have come to accept it and eat them regularly as either a meal replacement of a snack. My favorit flavor is chocolate.

A word of warning! If you’re use to the HIGH sugar, basically candy bars taste, you’re not going to get it with this bar  . In fact, I had to grow to like it! It’s not horrible, but it’s not like your standard power bars, etc…

Ingredients
Calories: 300, Calories From Fat: 130, Total Fat: 12gm, Saturated Fat: 2gm, Cholesterol: 0mg, Sodium: 110mg, Total Carbohydrate: 34gm, Total Dietary Fiber: 6gm, Sugars: 20gm, Protein: 14gm, Vitamin A: 0, Vitamin C: 0, Calcium: 0, Iron: 0

Notice the low saturated fat and the moderate sugar (but it’s natural sugars, not processed). Many women might freak out at the fat content, but it’s the good fats that your body needs. Starving your body of fats with chemicals does more damage than good.

If you want to read a thorough review of this bar, go to Newstarget. You might want to print it out as it is a lengthy, very excellent review of ALL the benefits of this bar!

Very interesting!

I’ve known for a long time about eating during a round but I have trouble doing it myself because I’m out there trying to lose weight (walking) and my body tells me that it’s not hungry (unless, of course I start to feel a big dip in energy).

I’m somewhat surprised to learn that I really should be ignoring it and trying to eat something like this to help the process during a round.

How do you recommend snacking properly during the round? Certain specific intervals?

Mike

Mike,

It’s more about length of time in between eating. You should be eating something healthy every 3 hours, which keeps your metabolism cranking and your energy levels really high! I go into more detail in my Golfers Guide To Weight Loss ebook.

Mike,

This looks to be a great food bar especially out on the golf course. So many golfers either do not bring or eat anything during a game or they snack on high sugar and/or high fat foods during their game. This bar has a great balance of protein, carbohydrates and the right fats to keep a golf game going strong. Thanks for the suggestion Mike I’ll be sure to pass along your recommendation to fellow golfers.

Sounds good Bob  ! So many people are stuck on the low-fat, fat-free wagon, but they don’t realize all the chemicals, preservatives and junk that are in those products. This product satisfies most of the nutrition elements of optimal health.

Yes I believe it is important to fuel your body during a round of golf. I usually have something after nine holes. Most of the time it’s a granola bar or something to that effect and (ya I know) a couple of Coors Lite. So much for the healthy stuff.

It is always good to eat AND drink HEALTHLY while on the course, at the driving range, and working out in general. I have taken Organic Food Bars on the course and found them better than the so-called health bars that are run-of-the-mill sugar-loaded marketing-hyped junk (yep that’s exactly what I feel about them  ) Whole Foods is a great store for loading up on healthy snacks for the course. Read the labels though, so you KNOW what you’re buying! Also, take along a banana, or two.

I’m going to have to try this bar. I’ve found I play alot better when I eat after holes ~6 and 12. I find healthy food tastes good because its healthy so I should have no problem getting it down. Will look into it; thanks for the recommendations Mike.

That’s a great “rule of thumb” for most golfers! After hole 6 and 12! Great unintentional tip;)

This is the only thing in golf i have a problem with. Eating during the round, I bring my fruit and water i just don,t eat them during the round. now i know what your thinking i,m trying to keep the pounds of but this is not the case, I have one of these great metabolism bodys that keeps me at ten and a half stone all the time no matter what. but that tip of every 6 holes sounds like a great idea i will try to give that a go…..

Mike, I tried these on your recommendation and got on really well. The only trouble is these things are a whopping $4, here in the UK – don’t know how much you guys are paying?
