Golfers: The Importance Of Water Cannot Be Ignored

Posted by Mike in Nutrition

I‘ll bet as you’re reading this you have not had a glass of water for many hours, if not for the entire day. How close am I to being correct? I bring this up because the majority of golfers, and people in general walk around all day in a dehydrated state. This dehydration in a prolonged state can cause many of your ailments and you don’t even know it.

Your Body And Your Brain

Do you want to know the importance of water? Your body is 75% water and your brain is up to 80% water. Without water your body and brain functions less efficiently and can lead up to physical ailments that affect your quality of life. Why wouldn’t you drink more water after reading this?

There are many links to mental deficiencies and water. With the brain being such a high percent of water, it only makes sense it needs adequate water on a daily basis to function at its best  ! Do you ever wonder why you lose concentration on the course? Especially in the hot summer sun? You need to double your water intake while playing in the summer.

Muscles, tendons and ligaments need water. Without it you’ll slowly start experiencing muscle and joint stiffness and soreness that will only worsen as you get older. What a simple fix to just DRINK WATER daily! Start right now! Go get a glass of water, then the next time you’re at the store get some pure water (see below).

Dehydrated muscles are weak and fatigued muscles. If you don’t hydrate adequately on the course don’t expect power and distance. Also, dehydrated muscles become very tight inhibiting your ability to make a full backswing. A simple fix of more water will do the trick  .

All Water Is NOT The Same

I don’t want to get too indepth on the quality of water you drink, because any water is better than no water! But, if you have a choice you want to get pure or distilled water. Some of the waters I’ve researched that are better are:

ESSENTIA WATER
1-877-293-2239

FIJI WATER
1-877-426-3454

HAWAII WATER
from Menehune Water Company
1-808-487-7777

ICE AGE Premium Glacier Water
USA: 310-374-9181
Canada: 604-323-0772

Crystal Geyser

How Much Water?

You should be drinking at least 50-75% of your body weight in water each day (coffee, soda and tea does not count). So if you weigh 150 pounds you should be drinking at least 75-112 ounces of pure water each day.

If you rarely drink water, I would slowly work up to your daily intake. Add one 8 ounce glass per day until you reach your goal.

Add Lemon

Lemon is one of the most powerful foods for supporting the digestive organs. It helps to turn the body’s energy and to cleanse and activate the liver.

Right when you get up, drink an 8 ounce glass of water (see water sources above) with a quarter of a lemon sqeezed in it. If you can, make it room temperature water and not cold water.

Drink Your Water 30 Minutes BEFORE Your Meal

30 minutes before your meals drink a full glass of water which will prepare your stomach for digestion and help against acid reflux. Try to not drink during your meal as this dilutes the effectiveness of the enzymes in your stomach. All your hot and cold drinks inactivate the enzymes needed for optimal digestion.

There are many books and lots of information on water and how it helps prevent many ailments in the body. Some of the information in this post has come from the book, The Cure – Heal Your Body, Save Your Life written by Dr. Timothy Brantley. He has done extensive work in the area of nutritional medicine and has worked with many celebrities in getting their body’s back to a healthy balance.

Another great resource is the Water Cure. It’s worth a look!
