Here’s How To Eat What You Want To Lose Weight

Lose Weight - GolfersAre you one of those golfers who knows they should lose weight? You’ve tried and it hasn’t worked? It’s not easy to lose weight (fat), but there are certain key elements to put into place to achieve your goals.

Deprivation Is Not Needed

You hear all the time how you have to “give up” certain foods to lose weight. There’s some truth to that, but there is also a little “fudge room” as well. What I mean is…you can still have your favorite foods, but in a lot less consumption and portions.

Deprivation is not a means to weight loss success. Whenever you force yourself to not have something, you’ll break down and binge on it eventually. This can cause a total reversal of any progress you’ve achieved up to that point.

Moderation Is Key

I strongly believe that you can eat nearly everything you want, but in moderation. For some people this may not be enough, but for many, this is all that is needed to achieve substantial fat loss.

Another term for moderation is “portion control”. Reducing the size of every meal you eat can drastically cut calories and speed up weight loss. Just imagine if you ate exactly the same foods, but cut every meal in half? That’s huge! So you haven’t deprived yourself, but you have mentally made the commitment to change.

Get Moving

You’ve heard this a thousand times…and you’ll hear it another thousand times. You have to move your body regularly to lose and keep the weight off. I like to refer to this as your “permanent” fat loss program.

You may have lost the weight before, but did you keep it off? Most people would say no. Why? You “got off” your diet and went back to a normal routine. There’s the classic “yo-yo” diet syndrome. On again…off again!

How about when you start to lose the weight you add a 10 minute walk everyday to your routine? You can do that right? If you’re going from zero walking to 10 minutes a day, that’s a dramatic increase. Don’t think you have to go 30-45 minutes. Yes…in a dream world, you’ll build up to this and be a lean mean machine. But start out with “baby steps” first.

Common Sense Eating

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know what’s good and what’s bad for you. The next time you eat, I want you to take a good hard look at it before you put it in your mouth. Ask yourself, “will this nourish my body or polute it”? You’ll know the answer everytime! If you can eventually have the answer be nourish 75% of the time, you’re golden!

If all else fails, eat a healthy nutrition bar for a meal! This is an easy way to eat healthy and have no prep time with your meals. Open up the wrapper and chow down  .

Hey, you are dead right.

Presenting your goal positively, in the present and personal and then using it as an affirmation is a sure way of developing a new way of eating and exercise. Let me give you an example:

I weigh 60 kgs (or 132lbs)

You write this down each morning and evening. You visualise how you look, picture yourself playing golf in this new physique.

Each morning in addition to writing your goal, write down three things that you are going to do that day to work towards that goal. These can be:

- eat three portions of fruit
- drink 2 litres of water
- walk up the stairs at work or at the station

I am sure you get the idea.

Repeat this each day and notice how you are becoming closer to your visualised physique.

all done through being positive, taking steps each day towards your goal.

Diet and excersise will always work. How much is up to the person doing it.

The best thing to nourish your body is fresh fruits and vegetables, not “nearly everything you want.”

Here’s a link to an article about eating in moderation. It’s may not be as good for us as we have been lead to believe:
