Yesterday I hit the best drive of my life after playing a total of 83 holes in 5 days. For the life of me I cannot remember what 'clicked' in order for me to hit that distance. I attempted to duplicate it today on a 9 hole league and wound up doing crazy, desperate stuff. What a frustrating game! :roll:

:wink: I have a weighted driver built by a friend who is a club builder. I use it regularly as a warm-up tool and find that it works great to loosen up tight swing muscles. Thanks for your tips Mike, they certainly are helpful.

hello :cool: , i think that as Mike said in the beginning that 100 people will tell you 100 different things. I do know that distance can be improved and remain improved through strengthening of the core and the lats and by improving your flexibility! particularly in the lower extremities. most people are hung up on stretching the upper body. I contend that the muscles of the hamstrings, hip (flexors, extenders and rotators ) and the glutes are equally if not more important when it comes to golf flexibility

Mike;
I have did a lot of reading on the stack and tilt golf swing used by a number of touring pros....aaron baddley, mike weir...etc. etc....I decided to order the videos and received them the other day and watched all 4....I haven't tried the swing, but it looks very familiar (I think) to my swing without the huge weight shift to the front foot...Just wanted your opinion...I'll let you know when I actually try it out....

TP,
I had seen that episode... I found it quite interesting... That was one of the things that raised my initial question to MIke. But if you look at the bulk of Long Drivers, they are built like weightlifters... So, removing proper contact and swing plane et al, is speed in the swing or power in the swing more important?!?!?!?!

Interesting stuff...

TP,

I find that hard to believe, as it is pretty obvious to see when you swing a heavier implement, then swing the normal one, it feels much lighter. I am no scientist :shock: so maybe I'm wrong which also wouldn't surprise me.

I think as a training tool, the <a href="http://www.performbettergolf.com/weighted-golf-club.html" rel="nofollow">weighted club</a> and the <a href="http://www.performbettergolf.com/hinge-golf-training-club.html" rel="nofollow">hinge golf club</a> are 2 of the BEST training aids any golfer should have (I have and use both of these daily).

Brian,

I do recall seeing a science of sports progam on TV, but I can't recall the title, where they analyzed a baseball player and a golfer. First they warmed up with out a weighted club or bat then they record 10 swings. Then the participants would swing a weighted club or bat and then take 10 swings again. For both the baseball player and golfer the swing speeds decreased and they missed the sweet spot more often. Now they players that they monitored were not weekend or recreational players but professionals.

Now they only measured results after warming up and not as a part of a regular excersice program. I have built, and use, my own weighted club and I replaced the grip with a training grip.
