Do you struggle to make a full backswing? How about your follow through? Do you finish it all the way or bale out just after impact? All these issues could be solved with one simple golf exercise. This exercise I’m talking about is one I do EVERY DAY! Yes…you heard that right! EVERY DAY!
I know this exercise has helped me maintain a huge backswing that allows me to crank the ball off the tee a long way. Do you want to increase your drives by 10, 20, 30 or more yards easily? The exercise I’m about to show you will do it.
All you need is an exercise ball. Will cost you $30, but it will be the best $30 you’ve ever spent, as this ball can and should be used for all your golf exercises right in your home!
So here it is
! What I do is I grab my exercise ball (mine is a 65cm), I get in my golf posture, and I swing it back and forth without stopping. I start out with shorter swings until I get warmed up, and by the time I’m done, my swing is FULL and very wide on both sides.
Using the ball gives me a strong feeling of width in my swing. For example, on my backswing, look at how wide my right arm is. That is maximum width right there! For some of the older golfers, starting out slowly is key. Also rememer to maintain your golf posture and do not let your head move up or down or side to side. Look in a mirror if you can.
Once in a while I will hold my backswing position and my follow through position for about 5 seconds to turn the exercise into a dynamic stretch as well. I’ll do 5 backswings and 5 follow throughs with a 5 second hold on each one of them. Notice how I am trying to minimize my hip rotation. I want to use my upper body (core) more on this exercise. Don’t get “loosy-goosy” with your hips or it will defeat the purpose of this great exercise!
If this unique exercise doesn’t improve your golf swing range of motion, I don’t know what will. This is such a simple, yet very effective exercise that anyone can do right in your home!
Give it a try and let me know how it works for you

What do you think?

Mike,
I would say exercise can’t get much easier than that. This one even looks almost fun!
And I would think you could even simulate it by grasping a golf club with your hands spread apart as long as the grip orientation doesn’t bother the rotator cuffs.
I know I’m more inclined to do a quick and easy stretch or exercise than a more intense, complex one. So, this is a very good and doable tip.

I went from hitting 240 yard drives to driving the ball 390 yards! on the fly. some of my drives end at about 420 - 440 yards. last weekend I drove one of my drives 535 yards over the green on the 5th hole par 5.
