With the season coming up very soon it’s time to “oil the joints” and get stretching. I know your time is a valuable commodity and simplicity is a critical factor in you doing it consistently. I am a huge proponent in consistency and not volume. I have gotten out of my own skin as a fitness professional and realized something daily is better than nothing.
Stretch Daily
If you haven’t done at least one stretch a day you’ve got to try it! It will ease your stress of the day, eliminate those nagging aches and pains, and increase blood flow to critical areas of your body that need it. Create a simple golf stretching plan that you know you can do every day. This could be one stretch first thing in the morning; one stretch during your work day; and one stretch before you go to bed. It can be that simple!
Add More Distance To Your Swing
We all know how important it is to have a BIG backswing to generate clubhead speed, power and distance in your golf swing. But… the majority of golfers don’t take the right approach. They keep pounding balls and taking lessons without working on the source of your golf swing. YOU! If it’s (your body) broken, you’re not going to swing the club efficiently or with any power.
In fact, you’re going to have a weak swing with NO power! The ONLY solution is stretching your golf-specific muscles in the same motion and positions of your golf swing. You can do this anywhere! In your home, office, “on the course” and even in a hotel while you’re traveling.
Simple Stretch In Your Office
As you see here, I’m doing a simple golf stretch specific to my golf backswing right in my home office. I do this particular stretch several times every day, and you can do the same
This is a perfect example of how simple this can be for you. There’s no need to say you don’t have time, as in this picture I’m “sitting” at my desk during a typical work day. You can find 30 seconds many times in a day, so there really is no excuse not to do it.
I hope you are starting to see how you can be successful with any golf stretching or exercise program with a little creativity. I myself would rather break it up in “bite-size” chunks throughout the day, so I don’t have to block out 60-90 minutes for a complete workout session.
This short article should be both motivational and encouraging for you to show you can really do this.

hi mike, nice to hear from you. being an older golfer at 68, and fairly new to the sport, i know that one has to be in good condition to play golf without the agonies of pain. any extra stretching can be an asset to hitting the little ball, but practice makes perfect. the only thing i want is to be able to hit straight shots and be consistent in striking ..not an easy accomplishment. i’m trying much too hard and not doing anything spectacular. any help will be truly appreciated.
