Golf Office Stretches – Lower Back Pain Relief

Posted by Mike in Golf Injury, Golf Stretching

I am constantly trying to show golfers how quick and easy it is to do golf stretches, and now you can even do them in your office. And get lower back pain relief as an added bonus. How much time do you spend sitting in a chair in front of your computer? If you’re like me, you don’t want to count the hours because it’s a lot. I never thought I’d be sitting in front of my PC as part of my job, but here I am.

So why not make the best of it right in your office? Why not break of the monotony and possibly boredom with some simple golf stretching exercises that will improve your golf swing power, and eliminate pain from your body.

Look at the stretch below that will improve your backswing.

How To Do It

  • Sit upright in your office chair, with chest high and back straight.
  • Reach behind you with one arm, which will rotate your upper body.
  • While staying very erect, twist as far as you can go and hold.
  • Twist the other way and repeat.
  • Go both sides 2-3 times, holding for 10 seconds.

The Benefits To Your Golf Swing

  • Increase rotation of trunk for an improve “x-factor”.
  • Loosen up lower back, to reduce strain and tightness, freeing up golf swing.
  • Improve ability to rotate upper body over a “fixed” lower body, like in your swing.

Now look at all those benefits you get in a matter of seconds per day! Isn’t your game and health worth it? Do you think you can take 15 seconds out of your day to do this? Since you’re sitting there reading this, “do it right now”!

If I can get more golfers to realize the nearly instant benefits of golf stretches like these, I’ll be a happy guy!

This actually helped me..I didnt add much yards or anything, BUT it helped with the lower back pain i was experiencing late in rounds..It also helped me early in the round with getting looser sooner…Which in turned helped my confidence through out the round..Nice to NOT drop two bogeys in the first two holes…Thanks!

I’m going to give this a go myself. I tend to practice a lot and I suffer from lower back pain a lot, I think it’s the millions of balls I have hit over the past 30+ years all beginning to take their toll! I think the best thing about this article is that the exercise is something I can while at work whenever I have a few odd minutes to spare.

I certainly feel better after a few hours on the computer. I always stretch before a round but never thought of stretching during the week. Thanks.

I tried this exercise before my friend picked me up for a round on Sunday. I’ve never beaten him before and this time beat him by five strokes. I’m an average size guy (5’11”) and he’s fairly large (6’3″) and I’ve never been able to out-drive him but I was either the same distance or father than him off the tee the entire round.

I think this really affected him mentally because his short game was far worse than usual as well. I’ll be doing this stretching exercise from now on before I go out to the course!

I always try and go to the range before a round to do some stretching and loosen up but never thought to do it mid week while at work. I might try this (despite the looks I’ll get from colleagues ;-) ) I notice a difference in my general flexibility when I haven’t stretched for a while so doing it at work over the winter is going to help ready for the new season.

An easy tip that I can use. I sit down all day at work and then head to the range straight after work and I am always stiff. This will help a lot. Thanks

In today’s game, fitness is as important as ever. Certain exercises are great for flexibility in the body, and that leads to more control over your swing. It also adds distance and power to each hit.

Stretching before a round is vital as well. Most golfers might not think so, but properly stretching can make the difference in 3 or shots. If you feel warm, you might get a par on that first hole instead of a double.

I was in a car accident in April. I told the doctors that my pain was in my lower back, right side, and down my right leg. Finally, in September, they did another MRI and found a bulging disc in my L5.S1 area. I have had 3 ESI’s done, and no relief. They are ordering a back brace next, and I am asking for a Nerve Block. The pain is getting so severe, that even with my pain medication (Lorcet plus 7.5/650) every 6 – 8 hours, and a soma 350 at night, I am still at a level 6-8. I am having spasms, and it runs down my right leg. I am in tears at work, where I sit for 2 hours at a time. (I work in Accounting) I am 45 years old. Is there any hope for me to get back to a normal life? Where I can load my dishwasher, do my grocery shopping, or even just drive to see my family 3 1/2 hours away? And do my job, without tears? Please someone tell me there is hope. I am so upset to be hurting for so long and it is only getting worse.

Back pains are most commonly caused by poor posture. Prolonged standing and sitting can produce this discomfort too. This seems to be a good management. I do stretching in the chair while at work every 2 hours. It kept back pain away.

A very well written article. Thanks. I’ve seen that one of the many challenges when one suffers from the back pain is to remember it. Often I forget and only after I lift up something heavy and it causes back pain once again, I recall oh, I am already living with this problem! but there are many treatments out there and I am continuously searching my options.

In addition to these great stretches, I encourage anyone with lower back pain to check out the condition of their mattresses. I spent years on a really old (like older than me) mattress and couldn’t figure out why my back kept hurting. DUH! right? Well, I finally found some information at qmattresses.com/ and learned that my mattress just might be why my back was hurting so much. I got a new mattress and, while I still have to do stretching pretty frequently, the extent and frequency of my back pain has decreased dramatically.
