Tiger’s Doing It Again. Here’s His Secret

Posted by Mike in General

Tiger Woods

Can you believe it? Tiger takes 10 weeks off from even touching a club and comes out dominating once again! At this moment, he finished his Saturday round and is something like 6 strokes ahead of the next golfer. Wow! So how can he do this? I mean… take that much time off, not even touch or swing a club, then pick up right where he left off at the end of this season?

I’m going to give you one guess, and if you know me by now, you’ll know what I’m going to say. His body has been trained physically to hit near perfect golf shots. What that means is he can take time off and come out and laser his balls right at his target time and time again.

As a finely tuned “athlete” you don’t lose it in 10 weeks. The average golfer would lose it in one week, let alone 10. When you prepare your body of the course, you reap the benefits indefinitely. I only wish more amateurs took this approach.

None of us will ever be Tiger Woods, but why wouldn’t we model the best player in the world? If you want to be a successful golfer, you’ll start focusing on your body with golf-specific strength and flexibility training that fits your schedule and current level of fitness.

It just boggles my mind on a daily basis that golfers don’t recognize and confirm that golf is a physical and very stressful movement on the body. Studies show that 80% of ALL amateur golfers will play with many injuries during their playing days. This is all because they are ignoring the physical aspect of the golf swing.

Just picture swinging a 3 and a half foot implement at up to 80mph while maintaining a stable body position. This is brutal on the body. The stress on the joints, tendons, ligaments and muscles is tremendous. Without a stronger more flexible body, the golfer will break down physically causing injury and a much lower performance output.

I would like to get your thoughts on this, as I am always interested in golfers giving their opinions. Many shock me, but others surprise and delight me

Tiger is the perfect combination of superb physical and mental conditioning. Pretty much the perfect storm of golf. I’m hoping another prodigy will emerge from the collegiate ranks in the next few years.

I agree! It’s amazing to me that no other golfer has duplicated his commitment both physically and mentally. I hate to say this  but many golfers are lazy by nature. They don’t want to put the work in to really reach their true potential. Tiger is the ONLY one who has taken it to such a high level. Thanks for stopping by golfnoise!

Mike,

You are so right. Golf-specific strength and conditioning is so important and you can do it anytime. You don’t need a driving range, putting green, or tee time. My game is so much better when I stick to my weekday golf workout routine, especially your stretching drills. Golf is a sport and players, especially amateurs, should treat it that way.

Doug,

I’m glad I’ve got atleast one golfer (you) realizing this  . Now if only I could get more of them to wake up.

I’ve played my best rounds after a long break ! Just the thought of clearing the mind and relaxing just made my focus easier. If I got paid very well like Mr. Woods, you can bet your wedgie I’d be in the gym or with a trainer everyday. Mike, do you have a quick workout/stretching routine for the rest of us 7 to 6er’s????? You see it’s tought trying to workout after a 10 hr day. Help a golfer out on this???
