Do you struggle to make a full backswing? How many times have you stepped up to the tee and tried to make a big turn to hit a long drive and the ball went nowhere? The reason this happened was you swung outside your physical capabilities. The secret to longer drives is effortless power. The only way to get effortless power is a tension-free full backswing, that unleashes into the ball coming down.

Any golfer over 40 should be focusing on stretching specific to your golf swing. If you don’t stretch, your golf muscles will get tight. Tight muscles are weak and ineffective. You will never maximize your driving distance potential with restricted muscles.

You’ve got 2 choices moving forward. Continue on the path you’re currently on, and just accept the natural decline in your game, or…start stretching and see a resurgence in your swing. One loaded with power and consistency. Once you start, you’ll wish you had been doing it years ago, but it is never too late.

Do you want a step-by-step, golf stretching program? I’ve put together a stretching for golfers DVD that is “plug-in-play”. It’s like having me in your living room taking you through a stretching program for golf. And the great thing…I’ve put it together in 7 minute segments. Yes…you get it done in 7 minutes and move on!

When it’s time to put the clubs away for the winter, it’s time to re-evaluate your season and see where you can make improvements duing the off season. This is your opportunity to start your next golf season right out of the gate, with lower scores and longer drives. You won’t have to “work your way” into the season, you’ll be like a primed athlete ready to bust loose!

Golf Swing Training

Did you have some flaws in your golf swing that resulted in consistent mishits? If so, diagnose the root cause and apply golf swing training drills to correct it. You can do many of these drills right in your home, garage or even your office with a golf club and a mirror

Repetitive drill training for your golf swing will encourage your muscles to produce the correct technique, so when you get out on the range, you can actually feel the right way to swing a golf club.

Off Season Strength Training Program

Like in any other sport, athletes will spend their off season strengthening the specific muscles used in the mechanics of their sport…why wouldn’t you, if you want to improve your golf swing? I’m not talking about grueling gym workouts that break your body and take 2 hours to complete. I’m talking about simple golf strength exercises specfic to your swing you can do in your home in just a few minutes each day…and their fun to do

Off Season Golf Stretching Program

This is a BIGGY! As golfers get older, they lose a tremendous amount of golf specific flexibility, which results in a massive reduction in driving distance and even golf swing consistency. The ONLY way to stop this decline and regain the distance you’ve lost is a golf swing specfic stretching program. You will be absolutely amazed at the freedom you’ll get in your golf swing if you just do a few simple stretches each day. By this time next spring, you’ll be crushing the ball long and straight.

Your Off Season Golf Swing Training Program Is A Must

I hope you’ve read this little blog post, and realize the importance of off season golf training if you want to improve your golf swing power and consistency.

Here’s a shameless plug

Golfers want to know!

What are the secrets to long golf drives? The ones the BIG boys in those long drive competitions put to use to hit balls over 400 yards. I know you may never aspire to hit it that long, but how about another 30 yards farther than you are now? I’m sure you’d oblige wouldn’t you?

You may be thinking those guys are monsters. 6′8″ 280 of shredded muscle, but you might be surprised to find out this past years Remax Long Drive Champion is ONLY 165 pounds and just under 6′ tall. AND…he is ONLY 20 years of age! Truly amazing!

So what’s the secret to hitting LONG drives in golf?

Well…I can tell you first off, if you are tight or weak good luck

But there’s still hope if you are. You can maximize your driving distance with a few simple tips (secrets):

Tee the ball forward in your stance. I mean almost outside your comfort zone. Draw a line straight out from your lead foot big toe and that’s where your ball should be. This enable you to do two very important things to hit it LONG.

First it allows you to get behind the ball and STAY behind it at impact, imparting “all you’ve got” into that poor golf ball Secondly, this promotes an ascending blow on the golf ball. That means you are catching it up on the UPSWING which promotes a higher launch angle and more distance.

Tilt your spine away from the ball. Most amateurs stand with a vertical spine with no tilt. This makes it nearly impossible to hit an ascending blow, and you have a greater chance of a reverse pivot on your backswing. Tilting your spine away from the target, puts you in the ideal position to arrive at impact powerfully.

Grip pressure should be on the light side. Here again is where we get in trouble. We put a death grip on the club which SLOWS down clubhead speed. Why? Because muscular tension kills speed. Try to do anything fast when you tighten your muscles. It ain’t gonna happen! Next time you want to hit it LONG, just before you start your backswing, lighten your grip and see what happens.

Create and maintain lag. This is a BIG ONE! In order to have maximum clubhead speed at impact and beyond, you MUST hold your wrist cock as long as you can, coming down. This is one of the biggest power leaks in all of golf. Releasing that angle in the wrist creates a tremendous loss of clubhead speed and ultimately distance. Strengthen your wrists to be able to hold this angle WAY into the downswing.

So there you have it!

Simple secrets to hit long golf drives. Give them a try

With the season coming up very soon it’s time to “oil the joints” and get stretching. I know your time is a valuable commodity and simplicity is a critical factor in you doing it consistently. I am a huge proponent in consistency and not volume. I have gotten out of my own skin as a fitness professional and realized something daily is better than nothing.

Stretch Daily

If you haven’t done at least one stretch a day you’ve got to try it! It will ease your stress of the day, eliminate those nagging aches and pains, and increase blood flow to critical areas of your body that need it. Create a simple golf stretching plan that you know you can do every day. This could be one stretch first thing in the morning; one stretch during your work day; and one stretch before you go to bed. It can be that simple!

Add More Distance To Your Swing

We all know how important it is to have a BIG backswing to generate clubhead speed, power and distance in your golf swing. But… the majority of golfers don’t take the right approach. They keep pounding balls and taking lessons without working on the source of your golf swing. YOU! If it’s (your body) broken, you’re not going to swing the club efficiently or with any power.

In fact, you’re going to have a weak swing with NO power! The ONLY solution is stretching your golf-specific muscles in the same motion and positions of your golf swing. You can do this anywhere! In your home, office, “on the course” and even in a hotel while you’re traveling.

Simple Stretch In Your Office

As you see here, I’m doing a simple golf stretch specific to my golf backswing right in my home office. I do this particular stretch several times every day, and you can do the same

This is a perfect example of how simple this can be for you. There’s no need to say you don’t have time, as in this picture I’m “sitting” at my desk during a typical work day. You can find 30 seconds many times in a day, so there really is no excuse not to do it.

I hope you are starting to see how you can be successful with any golf stretching or exercise program with a little creativity. I myself would rather break it up in “bite-size” chunks throughout the day, so I don’t have to block out 60-90 minutes for a complete workout session.

This short article should be both motivational and encouraging for you to show you can really do this.

Golf Stretching Resource

I know how busy you are right now. With all the shopping for golf gifts and working at the same time, you’re swamped right? Well… here’s another simple golf stretch you can do right in your chair at your office.

This is not some magical stretch, but this is a fantastic stretch for any golfer who sits alot and has a stiff lower back. The additional bonus to this stretch is an increased rotational turn on both your backswing and follow through which creates higher clubhead speeds and distance.

This is a simple reminder for all the easy stretches for golfers you can do not only in your home, but in your chair without leaving it !

I know I am one of those golfers who sits in front of a computer alot working on this blog and my other golf fitness websites, so I do these stretches several times EVERY day!

I think they are so important, that I created an entire section of golf stretches right in your office in my Total Golf Stretching ebook.

Golfers need to be flexible. It’s a must! Learning easy tips on how to become more flexible for golf is a shortcut to a better, more consistent golf swing.

I don’t want you to think of stretching as grueling, hard or time-consuming. All it takes is a couple of focused and targeted stretches a day to see amazing results. Just envision making a slightly bigger backswing. Do you think that would give you a few more yards? I know it would!

Simple and easy tips to maximize your results for better flexibility

1. Always Warm Up First. Never stretch a cold muscle! You are setting yourself up for an injury. Your warm up can be going up and down your stairs a couple of times; jogging in place for 3 minutes; getting on a stationary bike or elliptical machine for 5-10 minutes if you have one; or using one of those rebounder (mini-tramps) for 5 minutes. Anything to increase blood flow in the muscles you plan on stretching.

2. Do It After Your Shower First Thing. I do this one a lot. You have just taken a warm shower and your muscles are feeling great. This is a perfect time to stretch them. Throw on some athletic shorts and a comfortable t-shirt and do your stretches. Don’t even think about it. Just do them!

3. Do Each Stretch Three Times. The reason for this is to ease into the stretch you are doing. The first go-round don’t take it very far. The second one take it a little farther. The third one push it to slight discomfort. This is a very effective way to avoid injury and increase your range of motion through repetition.

4. Hold It For Only 15 seconds. This one has drawn some controversy. Golfers read they should hold the stretch for 30 seconds to all the way up to 90 seconds. That’s crazy. You’re not a lifelong contortionist. Here’s the deal. Hold it for 15 seconds; only rest long enough to catch your breath and go right into the 2nd go-round. Minimal rest – just keep moving.

5. Do It Daily. With the type of golf stretching routine I’m talking about, all you need is 7 minutes each day and you’ll be extremely happy with your golf improvement. That is why I put together my stretches for golfers dvd. To make it quick, easy and results-oriented! Nobody wants to spend an hour stretching their muscles. I personally don’t find that appealing .

6. BREATH! This is a critical tip. Don’t hold your breath when you’re in the stretch position. Let your breath out and you’ll find that your muscle releases and goes even farther. So many golfers strain with they stretch because they are holding their breath. Always remember to blow out on exertion. That goes for strength training too!

7. No Pain. You should never feel pain when you do your flexibility routine. Not even a little bit! There is a difference between pain and discomfort. You only want to feel a slight discomfort when you’re stretching. Pain now means injury after your body has cooled down.

8. Link Your Mind To Your Muscle. I really like this tip. Really focus on the muscle your stretching. Pay attention to how it feels, if it’s releasing properly or if it’s tightening up on you. Linking your mind to the muscle will enhance your results tremendously!

9. Use A Stretching Aid. This can make the difference between a so-so flexibility routine and a great one. For example, use a towel under your foot when you’re doing a lying hamstring stretch. This will enable you to take the stretch even further for increased range of motion. You can also you a rope or stretch chord for maximum results.

There you have it! 9 simple and easy tips on how to become more flexible in golf!

If you’re like me…you think about golf 24/7. That becomes a problem at work right? Wrong. There are many creative ways you can improve your golf swing right in your office .

Take a look at the picture above. I’m using a club to stretch my golf backswing muscles. You can do this too. Bring an old club to the office and stick it in the corner. A couple of times a day grab it for some stress relief and do this stretch. The next time you get to the course you’ll be amazed at how much bigger your backswing is.

I had so much fun coming up with golf stretches to do in your office, that I created an entire section of my golf stretching ebook with them . If you’re looking for a Golf Stretching Guide resource, you might want to take at look at what I’ve put together over at my Golf Trainer site.
