It was the 13th hole playing 141 yards and he hit this “lazy” little draw that landed short, but on the green, but continued to roll IN THE CUP!

Get this! He hadn’t played in 5 weeks!

I’m sitting here watching Tiger on the 18th hole at the US Open Golf Championship on Saturday. The guy is an ANIMAL! His golf injury to his knee is absolutely KILLING him. Will he make his eagle putt? I’ll tell you in about 10 seconds as he is getting ready to putt. Come on Tiger…make this thing!

HE MADE IT! Oh My God! There is NO one EVER like this guy!!! What an absolute STUD! Wow!

This guy IS THE TOUR! He brings SO MUCH EXCITEMENT to the game! Can you tell I’m a bit juiced up right now? Wow!

Now…lets talk about his golf injury and why he even has it.

We all talk about Tigers Workout Routine and how dedicated he is to it, but nobody talks about the swing he makes at the ball and the stress, torque and abuse he puts his body through.

No one else on tour could do what he is doing? The guy today was in sheer pain! Just think if he hadn’t been in such awesome shape? He wouldn’t being playing pro golf I can tell you.

What can he do from here?

Well…the ONLY choice he has is to modify his golf swing. He cannot continue swinging like he has and have any longevity on tour. There is NO WAY POSSIBLE! He needs to keep stress off that lead knee. The way he staps it back and into a nearly locked position is brutal on the ligaments and cartilage in his knee. This continued abuse will leave his knee bone-on-bone with no cartilage and pain every day of his life.

I am a HUGE Tiger Woods fan, and he makes my business fitness for golf much easier to sell to golfers. But this injury goes beyond even his high fitness level and into a realm none of us even want to think about. Which could be no more Tiger Woods on tour in the next couple of years

I am pulling for Tiger tomorrow to win this thing on sheer guts! Come on BIG GUY!

We played one of our local courses, the Padre Course at Camelback. It’s a forgiving course, so it was perfect for Trent and his first outing of the summer.

There is nothing better than getting on a golf course on a beautiful day with your son.

It’s that time of year! Millions of people will “hope” to create some New Year’s resolutions (or maybe the same ones year after year ). Why does it take a date for people to attempt to take action? I’ve never understood that. If we are so weak in mind that a date on a calender dictates our choices and decisions, we are not in control of our lives.

Weight Loss

Losing weight is the biggest New Year’s resolution of all time! This is the year people are going to make it happen (right). I was in my gym yesterday and a guy (regular exerciser) said, “what’s with all these people?”. I said, “they’ll be gone for the year in about 10 days.” I hate to sound so cynical, but I have seen this occurrence time and time again.

Does this sound familiar? Have you done this before? I know in certain situations (ie. cleaning my office) I have been guilty. But your health should be at the top of your list. Above food! Above bad habits! If you don’t have your health, you have nothing!

Losing weight should be an ongoing, conscious effort by everyone. I don’t understand why people don’t take it more seriously. We have more desease and obesity in our country than we ever have. Isn’t that enough to wake people up? We are not invincible! The human body is easily broken. Unless you take care of it (eat right and exercise) you will be a statistic like everyone else out there!

Improve Flexibility

Most golfers dream of being more flexible. Being able to make a full turn without straining too much. Unfortunately for most… it’s only a dream. Golfers aren’t putting in the effort to see results. God forbid… nothing comes easy !

Stretching for golfers doesn’t have to be torture. In fact, just a couple of targeted stretches on a daily basis will make a huge difference in you golf swing. Don’t picture the effort it takes, picture the results! Longer drives! No more back pain! Less risk of injury!

Start A Fitness Program

Along with weight loss, starting a fitness program is the second biggest New Year’s resolution that never really happens. I have the theory people who have these resolutions, lose motivation in less than 10 days, and the excuses start up all over again. We can rationalize anything in our minds we want… and we can make it sound reasonable (in our minds), but is that really the right approach? NO! Making excuses and giving yourself “outs” from exercise or proper eating are a joke! Don’t get caught up in this anymore! Be more aware of all your thoughts at all times and you’ll soon see how you’re trying to sabatoge your mind 24/7!

I have a new golf exercise program coming out in the next few days that is the perfect “kickstart” for anyone with a New Year’s resolution or just want to “ease into” a fitness for golf program.

In closing, don’t let a date (January 1) dictate you doing something for your health. Really look at how ridiculous this is and don’t fall in this trap.

Can you believe it? Tiger takes 10 weeks off from even touching a club and comes out dominating once again! At this moment, he finished his Saturday round and is something like 6 strokes ahead of the next golfer. Wow! So how can he do this? I mean… take that much time off, not even touch or swing a club, then pick up right where he left off at the end of this season?

I’m going to give you one guess, and if you know me by now, you’ll know what I’m going to say. His body has been trained physically to hit near perfect golf shots. What that means is he can take time off and come out and laser his balls right at his target time and time again.

As a finely tuned “athlete” you don’t lose it in 10 weeks. The average golfer would lose it in one week, let alone 10. When you prepare your body of the course, you reap the benefits indefinitely. I only wish more amateurs took this approach.

None of us will ever be Tiger Woods, but why wouldn’t we model the best player in the world? If you want to be a successful golfer, you’ll start focusing on your body with golf-specific strength and flexibility training that fits your schedule and current level of fitness.

It just boggles my mind on a daily basis that golfers don’t recognize and confirm that golf is a physical and very stressful movement on the body. Studies show that 80% of ALL amateur golfers will play with many injuries during their playing days. This is all because they are ignoring the physical aspect of the golf swing.

Just picture swinging a 3 and a half foot implement at up to 80mph while maintaining a stable body position. This is brutal on the body. The stress on the joints, tendons, ligaments and muscles is tremendous. Without a stronger more flexible body, the golfer will break down physically causing injury and a much lower performance output.

I would like to get your thoughts on this, as I am always interested in golfers giving their opinions. Many shock me, but others surprise and delight me

In writing for this blog I really need your help! What do you want to hear about? What’s important to YOU? This blog is about you…and YOUR NEEDS As I don’t want to set myself up for posting everyday, I want to make sure what I write about, and share with you is information you are genuinely interested in and see value to your golf game (and life).

I truly want to connect with you!

The ONLY way I can…is to know what you really want. Do you want to hear about what I do from a golf and fitness standpoint? If so, what specifically? Is there concerns you have that you think I can cover and help with?

I’m a REAL person who loves golf and knows that fitness can play a huge part in getting you to play better. I don’t want to hammer fitness in you on this blog, but I do want to educate and inform you at the same time.

Have you found value in my recent golf exercise tip, or maybe my golf nutrition protein shake. I truly hope so, if not let me know how I can do BETTER for you!

I truly feel I was meant to bring my knowledge of both golf and fitness to you. It’s something I value highly, and appreciate the opportunity to help you in any way.

In exposing myself in this blog, I do have to keep in mind I have a wife and two kids to provide for and this is what I do for a living (my golf fitness dvds, books and products). With over 27 million golfers just in our country alone, I know many of them could benefit from this approach, but need to get outside their own skin to realize it.

So far…this blog has been a lot of fun, and the interaction (commenting from you) has been exceptional! I want to keep it going and then some. My goal with this blog is to create a large golf community of golfers who get together regularly (visit this blog and comment) to help each other.

If you want to be a part of it and tell your golf friends I’m all for it

With that being said, comment below to your hearts content and desire. I look forward to seeing you in here soon. Also, if you want to be notified via email when I’ve made a new post, click the email image and link below to sign up today.

Did you like my “play on words”? I hope it caught your attention. I’ve been giving it quite a bit of thought, and decided to come up with “my list” of what I think the top 7 habits are of highly successful golfers. This is just “my opinion”, they are not in any particular order, and I invite you to add your opinion freely. If anything, disagree with me and spunk up the comments on this post.

Playing better golf is a grind. Trying to improve your score while minimizing the “bleeding” is very hard. In fact, statistics show…for every golfer that picks up the game, there is one who is quitting. Isn’t that an eye-opener? I thought it was an interesting statistic.

1. Focus on golf fundamentals. Effective and successful golfers have solid fundamentals. Grip, stance, posture. These are critical before you even start your golf swing. If these are not solid, your chances of conistently hitting a good shot are far less.

2. Smart Practice. Successful golfers don’t go to the range without an agenda. They have a specific purpose for each practice session. It might be working on a consistent take-away for the entire practice. It could be spending a large amount of time doing a drill for their swing fault. It could be broken down to set time periods with each range of clubs.

3. Physical preparation. If you’ve been reading this blog at all, or maybe you have my golf fitness products already, you know how strong I feel about this. If I had my druthers, it would be at the top of the list ! But we can’t be partial can we . The best golfers focus on their physical weaknesses and make them strengths. Most amateurs don’t! They also work on their bodies specific to golf consistently.

4. Mental training. Most of the touring pros have their very own mental golf coach. They know how critical it is to maintain focus and composure for 4 straight days. Just a few slip ups and they miss a cut and make no money. Do you work on your mental game? What do you do currently to keep your focus on the course and for every shot?

5. Nutrition for prolonged energy. This one could be in the physcial preparation one, but I think it warrant its very own one. You get out of your body what you put in it. If you put low octane fuel in it, you’ll get the results of an AMC Pacer (remember those clunkers?). If you put the fuel of a ferrari, you’ll get stealth results, meaning personal best scores and even trophies from your local club tournaments.

6. Goal setting. Like in any endeavor, if you don’t set goals you have nothing to shoot for. You need to have a goal that really makes you reach! Not just lower your handicap by 2 strokes, but how about by 5 within one golf season? You can set goals for one round of golf, a tournament and for the entire season. Write them down and plot a plan to achieve them. The successful golfers sets goals for every round, tournament and season he/she plays in, and evaluates progress conistently.

7. Golf swing analysis. I added this one as I truly feel if you get your golf swing on video early on when you pick up the game, you’re givin yourself a true starting point and a phenomenal diagnositc evaluation on what you should really focus on to improve from the very beginning. Seeing yourself on video is such an eye-opener. Most of the pros use video for every practice session with their teachers.

Okay…there’s my 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Golfers. No add to it, tear it apart and tell me how you really feel !

I receive emails all the time asking me what I do for ‘this and that’, and this is my opportunity to let you in on some of my secrets that I use to stay fit and play good golf.

One very important component of nutrition is protein. Protein is the building block of muscle. Many golfers think they eat enough protein and that is far from the truth. You should eat approximately 1 gram of protein for every 2 pounds of your bodyweight.

This is more protein than you think. In fact, I’ll bet it’s a lot more than you eat right now!

One easy way to add a few more grams of protein in your diet is a protein shake. It takes me less than 5 minutes to make mine and boy is it good…and very, very healthy. I am a little anal when it comes to food. I thoroughly believe in organic foods. That doesn’t mean I wear burkenstocks and tie dye shirts:).

In today’s terms, most of the food we eat is processed and contaminated with pesticides and other chemicals. We don’t know for sure what exactly it will do to us, but I don’t want to take that chance. I’ve even swayed my beautiful wife…and slowly my children in to eating more organic foods;).

You’ve heard this a thousand times, but the best foods for the human body are organic fruits and vegetables. You can’t eat enough of them! When you can’t get organic, just clean them off thoroughly before you eat them. I try to eat 5 fruits and 3 to 4 vegetables everyday. It’s not that hard. Carrots, celery, brocoli, apples, oranges, grapes, strawberries…yum yum yum!!

With that being said, I’m going to show you the exact protein shake I have almost every day as either a meal replacement or a post workout (strength) drink to replenish my muscles.

I have researched protein powders and found a great one at Wholefoods. See picture. It’s called Jay Robb’s Egg White Protien (I use chocolate). I picked this one because it is an eggwhite source of protein, which is one of the best sources you can get. I also picked it because it has no:

MSG

Lactose

Aspartame

Sucralose

Artificial Flavors

Artificial Sweeteners

Aritificial Colors

Fat

Cholesterol

Basically the healthiest protein powder you can get! Here’s what the nutrition value is:

Serving Size: (1 scoop) 30g
Calories: 100 Calories from fat: 0
Total Fat: 0 g
Saturated Fat: 0 g
Trans Fat: 0g
Cholesterol: 0 mg
Sodium: 380 mg (naturally occurring)
Potassium: 370 mg
Total Carbohydrates: 2g
Dietary Fiber: 0 g
Sugars: 0 g
Protein: 24g

Now here is what I do:

Mix 12 ounces of cold filtered water

1 scoop of protein powder

One banana, blueberries, strawberries

Blend it in blender

I will either drink it right then, or I’ll put it in the fridge til I drink it after my workout!

So…you read it hear. What the trainer drinks for his protein shake.
